As a creative second year History of Art student at The University of Manchester, I have taken it upon myself to explore the profession of conservation and restoration of Cultural Heritage with Daniela Murphy at Associazione Bastioni. I feel strongly that the absence of this subject within my art history degree can lead to ambiguity between the art historian and the conservator and restorer. I am somebody who has always thrived in creative environments as well as having a curiosity about technical processes and histories that are often hidden at first glance. Whilst art historians explore the histories associated with the surface of the works of art, the conservator and restorer delve into the internal foundations which enable the histories to be revealed. As an art historian I want to unravel these mysteries too. |
